Principal's Message
A Message from your new Principal and Assistant Principal
As the 2008-2009 school year draws to a close, fifth graders are already anticipating the move
to middle school. As your new administrators, we look forward to welcoming your child into the world
of secondary education.
The middle school years are an important time. We will be challenging young people to begin exploring
their unique talents, interests, and abilities; and use that information to help students examine
career opportunities and develop the skills crucial for success in college and the workplace. It’s an
exciting time, a time of discovery, as students begin to learn about themselves and gain an
understanding of the world around them, including our interconnectedness to the global economy of the
21st Century.
As parents, we invite you to share in this journey. We are looking for your creativity, talent and
enthusiasm to:
- Establish AGW’s Parent Teacher Association (the PTA);
- Launch our first School Achievement Team with teachers and administrators;
- Share your skills a few hours each month in the classroom, the library, the office,
on career day, on field trips or as a mentor; and last but not least,
- Help us with suggestions for new traditions for our students, staff
and school.
Next year, Alfred G. Waters Middle School (grades 6-8) will feature a mix of talented staff from both
Louis L. Redding Middle School (where I currently serve as Principal) and Everett Meredith Middle School
(where Dr. Troxell serves as Assistant Principal). Together, we bring more than 30 years of experience
in working with teens and tweens.
Since the 2008-2009 school year will be the first time Alfred G. Waters Middle is home to grades 6-8, our
entire student body and staff will be “new” to the school next year. We will host several
nights for our parents and students in August. Our new 6th grade families and students will have the traditional back to school night on August 20th. For our 7th and 8th grade students and parents your parent/teacher back to school night is August 27th. However, we recognize the need to have students and parents visit our new
building before the first day of school, August 26th. In mid-August we will host a night to tour the
building and meet the administration. More information will sent to you about this open house this summer,
www.agwaters.org regularly for updates beginning in mid-June.
If you have any questions or concerns relating to your new school, your teachers, or the year ahead,
please feel free to contact us via email at the address below.
Sincerely,
Mr. James Comegys, Principal
Dr. Laura Troxell, Assistant Principal
