Go Sharks!!

The Alfred G. Waters PTA would like to welcome everyone back to school! We hope you enjoyed your summer and we are really looking forward to working with all of you this year. The PTA has already been very busy with planning a lot of fun events for our students. Our goal this year is to create an active PTA that contributes to the educational and social well-being of our students, parents and staff. We will strive for 100% participation from parents and staff and know that with everyone's support we can make a big difference in our school community.

The first thing everyone needs to do is join the PTA. We are asking for a minimum amount of $30 from every family. This includes $10 for dues for one parent. If both parents would like to join in order to vote at meetings, it would be an additional $10. The remaining amount is a tax deductible donation and will be put towards the program costs of the PTA.

We are pledging to eliminate all outside fundraisers- this means no selling candy, pizza, candles, wrapping paper, etc. We want to make this as easy as possible for everyone! The majority of our funds will come from donations and dances.

Here are some other easy ways you can help the PTA:

Participate in restaurant nights- you will receive a calendar with all the dates. Join us once a month and have dinner with friends. We will be visiting Friendly's, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Red Robin. We are hoping to add a few new opportunities as well!

Coupon Books- In November, we will send home a Delaware coupon book with your student.  The cost of the book is $20 and it gives you over $2500 worth of coupons to local businesses.  We are not asking you to sell the book- we are simply offering this great savings opportunity to our families.  If you wish to purchase the book, keep it and send in the payment.  If you do not wish to purchase the book, just send it back to school.  It is so easy!  You can also order more, if you'd like- they make great holiday gifts!

Boxtops!!!! - Clip those Boxtops!!!! Yes, we can still benefit from Boxtops- it isn't just an elementary thing. There will be drop-offs in the office and the library. You can also bring them to PTA or teacher meetings at school.

Store Rebates- run to Safeway and Super G and designate Alfred G. Waters as your school of choice. Every time you use your store card, the PTA gets money back. So easy! If you have students in more than one school, designate two schools and they split the money. Same goes for Office Depot and Target. Tell them you are with Alfred G. Waters and help the PTA earn easy money. Office Depot School ID#- 70217756. Target School ID #- 147461.

Logo Sales- we will be selling shorts, sweatshirts, t-shirts and much, much more throughout the year. Check out the Logo Sales page for order form and dates.

Book Fair- the PTA will sponsor two book fairs. The one in November is for profit and all proceeds will directly benefit the library. The May book fair will be a buy one/get one free to get everyone ready for a summer of books!

Dances- you will receive a calendar with dates and more information on dance procedures.

So, what will all of this money be used for?  Our goal this year to fully fun the PBS (Positive Behavior Support) program which includes big events like the Carnival.  We are also committed to helping to fund all of the extracurricular clubs and activities that our students have the opportunity to join.  Every student will receive a back to school gift that will help them hold on to their PBS tickets.  We are sponsoring a huge 5K and Fall Festival on October 8th that will be fun for the WHOLE family and we will once again sponsor a reading event for boys.  This year it will be called "Real Men Read."  Also, look for a mother/daughter event!

We have so many fun and engaging events planned.  You won't wan to miss them!

Be sure to check out the PTA page of the school website often. Of course, we always need volunteers for different activities throughout the year. If you are interested, please contact any of the board members through the website.

Remember, even though our children are getting older and hopefully getting more mature, they still need a strong support system to guide them in the right direction. Middle school doesn't mean your child doesn't need you anymore- if anything, they need you even more! Be involved, be aware and TALK about what is happening in school and in their lives. They may not want you around, but they need you around.
